Frequently asked questions
Do I need to migrate to Stream (classic) before going to the new Stream?
There is not a migration from Office 365 Video to the new Stream. The only automatic migration available for content in Office 365 Video is to migrate it to Stream (classic). If you haven't yet migrated to Stream (classic) your options are:
- Migrate from Office 365 Video to Stream (classic) as described in this page
- This is the recommended option for most customers
- This allows for redirection of links and embed codes from O365 Video to the migrated content in Stream (classic)
- When the new Stream is further along and migration from Stream (classic) to the new Stream is ready you'd need to do a 2nd migration, however it's unlikely this back to back, you will likely be staying on Stream (classic) for some time
- Manually move your videos out of their existing Office 365 Video channels to SharePoint sites
- You would be putting the videos into SharePoint like any other file, and need to be comfortable with the current feature set of videos stored in SharePoint, and willing to go without some of the features of Stream (classic) that don't yet exist for videos in SharePoint
- In the new Stream all videos stored in SharePoint and OneDrive will show up in the new Stream web app and get the new player experience, so this is on that path, but many features of the new Stream will not be ready to later in 2021, see the Stream roadmap for more info
How will I know when Microsoft is ready to move me?
When we are ready for the transition, we will reach out via the Office 365 admin center and also use that channel to keep you up to date on the progress.
What will happen to my video content when it’s transitioned to Stream?
For most regions, Microsoft will transition all videos, channels, and permissions from Office 365 Video into Stream. After the transition, existing Office 365 Video embed codes and links to videos will still work, redirecting to the same content in Stream. See transistion details for more info.
